Job Description
Overview: As a General Ledger Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial records. You’ll be responsible for managing the general ledger, recording financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and providing insights to support financial decision-making.
Responsibilities:
- General Ledger Management: Maintain the general ledger by recording journal entries, accruals, and adjustments accurately and in accordance with accounting principles and company policies.
- Month-End Close: Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Account Reconciliation: Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly. Reconcile bank accounts, intercompany transactions, and other accounts as needed.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct variance analysis and provide explanations for budget variances and fluctuations in account balances. Identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement in financial performance.
- Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits by providing supporting documentation, responding to inquiries, and ensuring compliance with audit requirements. Implement audit recommendations to strengthen internal controls and processes.
- Fixed Assets Management: Maintain fixed asset records, including depreciation schedules, additions, disposals, and impairment assessments. Ensure accurate capitalization and accounting treatment of fixed assets in accordance with accounting standards.
- Tax Compliance: Assist with tax filings and compliance requirements, including sales tax, property tax, and income tax. Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for tax returns and audits.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation in accounting workflows. Streamline procedures, enhance efficiency, and implement best practices to optimize the general ledger function.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification or progress towards certification preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in general ledger accounting or similar role. Experience with month-end close processes and financial reporting.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of GAAP and financial accounting principles.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, analyze trends, and reconcile complex accounts.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping and analysis.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to stakeholders.
