Job Description

Overview: As an Assistant Store Keeper, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the efficient operation of the store or warehouse by managing inventory, organizing stock, and facilitating smooth transactions. You’ll work closely with store managers and other team members to ensure that products are readily available to meet customer demand while maintaining accurate records and inventory levels.

Responsibilities:

  1. Inventory Management: Receive, inspect, and record incoming merchandise or supplies. Maintain accurate inventory records using manual or computerized systems. Monitor stock levels and reorder products as needed to avoid stockouts or overstock situations.
  2. Stock Organization: Organize and arrange inventory in designated storage areas, ensuring that products are easily accessible and properly labeled. Rotate stock to minimize spoilage or expiration of perishable items. Implement FIFO (first in, first out) and FEFO (first expired, first out) principles where applicable.
  3. Order Fulfillment: Pick, pack, and prepare orders for shipment or delivery according to customer specifications. Verify product accuracy and quality before dispatching orders. Coordinate with logistics or delivery personnel to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.
  4. Receiving and Dispatching: Receive deliveries from suppliers, inspecting goods for damage or discrepancies. Process receiving documents and update inventory records accordingly. Prepare outgoing shipments, including packing, labeling, and documentation.
  5. Stocktaking and Auditing: Conduct regular physical inventory counts to reconcile inventory records with actual stock on hand. Investigate and resolve discrepancies or discrepancies in inventory counts. Assist with internal or external audits as needed.
  6. Customer Service: Assist customers with inquiries, product recommendations, and order processing. Provide courteous and prompt service to enhance the customer experience and foster repeat business.
  7. Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store or warehouse, including shelving, storage bins, and work areas. Report any maintenance or safety issues to management for resolution.
  8. Compliance: Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety regulations. Adhere to health and safety guidelines when handling and storing products, including hazardous materials or chemicals.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional certification or training in inventory management or warehouse operations is a plus.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a similar role, such as storekeeping, inventory control, or warehouse management, is preferred.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail when handling inventory, recording transactions, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects or packages. Comfortable working in a warehouse or storage environment with exposure to varying temperatures and physical demands.
  • Team Player: Collaborative mindset with the ability to work well as part of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills for data entry, inventory management software, and email communication.
